Make Cream Cheese Wontons at Home!
You can make cream cheese wontons at home! You will need a few ingredients and follow a few easy steps. The result will be delicious, bite-sized treats that you can serve with a variety of different dips.
Ingredients
To make the cream cheese wonton recipe, you’ll need:
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp finely chopped green onions
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 Egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 pack of small wonton wrappers
How to Make Cream Cheese Wontons
- In a small bowl, beat 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Set egg wash to the side.
- In a medium bowl, use a handheld mixer to mix the cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
- Add the green onions and salt. Mix until well blended.
- Lay out the wonton wrappers on your work surface and brush both sides lightly with the beaten egg wash (this will help them seal when folded and make them golden brown).
- Place 1 tsp of cream cheese in the center of each wrapper.
- Bring opposite corners of the wonton together to create a triangle shape by pressing edges together to seal the filling inside. Repeat with remaining wonton wrappers and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper until all of them are filled.
- Choose your choice of cooking method below.
Cooking Methods
- Air Frying – Preheat the air fryer to 360° degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes; place a single layer of wontons on the crisp basket, then cook for 6 minutes or until golden brown and crispy around the edges.
- Deep-frying – This is the most common way to cook wontons but it’s not exactly the healthiest option. You can deep fry them in a large pot of vegetable oil at 350° degrees Fahrenheit, for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
- Baking – Another option is to bake your cream cheese wontons at 350° degrees Fahrenheit until they’re golden brown on top (about 15 minutes). This method works best if you want to make these in bulk and not have to make them a few at a time. This is a great option if you need to serve them as party appetizers for tons of people.
Once your cream cheese wontons are done, serve warm with chili sauce or sweet and sour sauce.
Storing Cream Cheese Wontons
Cream Cheese Wontons are best when eaten right after they’re made, but you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- Refrigerated: Store cream cheese wontons in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- Frozen: Freeze cooked wontons on a baking sheet until firm, then transfer them to an airtight container or freezer bag and store for up to 3 months; thaw before reheating.
