The best cut of steak to use
The type of steak you use is important, as it will determine the texture and taste of your finished product. A Philly cheesesteak should be thinly sliced and cooked on a griddle. The sliced steak should be about 1/4 inch thick, so that it cooks quickly without drying out. It’s best to use ribeye or top round for this recipe as they are lean cuts of meat that won’t dry out during cooking. However, you could also try using sirloin if you prefer its texture over other cuts’ chewiness(which can sometimes turn people off).
How to thinly slice your steak
To get your steak sliced thin, you’ll need a sharp knife and a cutting board. Place your steak on its side and cut thin strips lengthwise down the center of it–this is called “against-the-grain” slicing because you’re cutting as close as possible to where all those little stringy bits are running through each piece of meat ( this will make the meat easier to chew and less chewy).
Philly cheesesteak sliders ingredients:
- 1 pack of thinly sliced ribeye steak, diced into bite-sized pieces
- 1 – 12 pack of King’s Hawaiian rolls
- 6 – 8 Slices of Provolone cheese (or any cheese of your choice).
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced (about 1 cup)
- Onion powder seasoning
- Garlic powder seasoning
- Salt and pepper seasoning to taste
How to make Philly cheesesteak sliders
- Add the vegetable oil to the pan.
- Add the steak to the pan and cook the chopped rib eye steak in a skillet over medium-high heat until brown, or longer if you want the rib eye steak more well done.
- Add garlic powder, onion powder, and salt and pepper while cooking the meat. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Saute the peppers in a pan until they have softened and have a darker color.
- In another pan saute onions over medium-high heat until they start browning slightly but not burning them! Add just enough water so that there is moisture coming off into the pan but not too much as this will cause them to turn black rather quickly!
- Once everything is done, add the meat, onions, and peppers together. Set aside.
- Heat oven to 350° degrees Fahrenheit.
- Place the Hawaiian bread sliced open horizontally making sure both halves are on a sheet pan and toast the bread for 8 minutes.
- Take the bread out of the oven, then add your meat mixture onto the toasted bread along with provolone cheese. Place the sliders in the oven until the cheese has melted and once the cheese has melted take it out of the oven.
- Place the top half of the bread on top of the mixture and your Philly cheesesteak sliders are ready to serve.
What to serve with Philly cheesesteak sliders
There are so many options, it’s hard to know where to start. But here are my best suggestions:
- Cheese fries
- French fries
- Onion rings
- Tator tots
- Potato chips
Do not forget:
- Make sure you do not forget to add the provolone cheese or your choice of cheese!
- Make sure you do not forget to add the onions!
- Do not forget about those peppers, either. They go great with steak.
And do not forget about the french fries! It adds crunch when it comes time for your guests or family members (or even just yourself) to dig in and enjoy these delicious mini sandwiches.
